Madison Metropolitan School District has a lottery process for three middle schools:

Badger Rock Middle School (BRMS)

Badger Rock Admission Process:  Badger Rock is a charter school and offers 6th through 8th grade enrollments. The lottery process is for 6th grade only, 7th and 8th grade students can apply separately to be added to the grade-level wait list. The requirements for admission into the charter school 6th grade are that a student lives within the Sennett Middle School attendance area*. A lottery will be conducted if interest in attendance at the charter school exceeds the authorized student enrollment.

*Weighing of the Lottery: 80% of the selected students through the lottery process come from the Sennett and 20% from outside of Sennett attendance area.

Tier 1: Applicants who reside within the BRMS attendance area and are siblings of students who 1. are currently attending BRMS during the initial application period; and 2. will continue to be enrolled in BRMS in the following school year*.
Tier 2: Applicants who do not reside within the BRMS attendance area and are siblings of students who 1. are currently attending BRMS during the initial application period; and 2. will continue to be enrolled in BRMS in the following school year.
Tier 3: Children of a current Badger Rock staff member (employed during the application window and continuing to next year and reside in the Sennett attendance area.*)
Tier 4: Children of Badger Rock founders and reside in the Sennett attendance area. (Jamie Donini, Nan Youngerman, Sara Alvarado, Brenda Baker, Kristen Joiner, David Wasserman, Jay Affeldt, Mark Wagler, Tom Mosgaller, Susana Vasquez Garcia, Kathy Price, Isadora Knox and Wayne Strong.)
Tier 5: Residents of Allis attendance area south of US Hwy 12 & 18.


Wait List: used to fill vacancies that arise in any sixth grade classroom until and including the first day of 3rd quarter. Wait Lists rolls to the next school year through the end of 8th grade year.

BRMS Lottery Application Timeline:

  • December 4th - Lottery opens 8:00am 
  • January 9th and 12th - Open House at Badger Rock
  • January 31st - Lottery closes 4:00pm 
  • February 19th - Lottery results mailed to families this week 
  • February 28th - Accept or decline Confirmation due to schools from families

Spring Harbor Middle School

Spring Harbor Admission Process: Spring Harbor is a Magnet school and offers 6th through 8th grade enrollments. The lottery process is for 6th grade only, 7th and 8th grade students can apply separately to be added to the grade-level wait list. The requirements for admission into Spring Harbor Middle School are that a student lives within the Memorial High School attendance area. A lottery will be conducted if interest in attendance at the Magnet school exceeds the authorized student enrollment.
 

Weighing of the Lottery: Ninety students will be admitted in 6th grade. All other students will automatically go on a waitlist.

Tier 1: Student’s primary home address resides in the former Spring Harbor attendance area - address specific.
Tier 2: Applicants who reside within the Memorial High School attendance area and are siblings of students who 1. Spring Harbor in grade 6th or 7th during the application window; and 2. will continue to be enrolled in Spring Harbor in the following school year.
Tier 3: Student resides in the Memorial High School attendance area.
Wait Listed: Student resides outside of the Memorial High School attendance area.


Wait Lists roll to the next school year through the end of 8th grade year.

Wright Middle School

Wright Admission Process: Wright is a Magnet school and offers 6th through 8th grade enrollments.  The lottery process is for 6th grade only, 7th and 8th grade students can apply separately to be added to the grade-level wait list.   The requirements for admission into Wright Middle school are that a student lives within the Elementary Schools feeding into West high. A lottery will be conducted if interest in attendance at the Magnet school exceeds the authorized student enrollment.

Weighing of the Lottery: The top 80 students in the 5th grade are selected  from Elementary attendance areas, 20% from outside of those attendance areas. Applicants outside of the qualifying Elementary footprint are held out of lottery and put at the bottom of the WL.

Tier 1: Applicants with a sibling attending Wright Middle School and resides in an Elementary footprint that feeds into West High att area.
Tier 2: The student resides in an Elementary footprint that feeds into West attendance area.
Tier 3: Children of a current Wright staff member. (Employed during the application window and continuing to next year.)
Wait Listed: Student resides outside of the Elementary footprint that feeds into West attendance area.

Wait Lists roll to the next school year through the end of 8th grade year
